I began teaching in pre-school and have been teaching at the college level for 5 years. I also freelance interpret and am involved in numerous deaf clubs and advocacy groups. I have been involved with sign language for six years now. I took two years in high school and two semesters in college. I also tutored four students for a year in the basics of sign. Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter. Throughout the last 10 years, I have helped my husband, brother, all of my children, etc. I have tutored them on how to write a well developed paper on their topic of choice, and have it read showing the expertise of the writer. I believe that there is no one standardized method to teach, rather each individual is unique in their learning abilities. Therefore, while teaching I often gauge how a student is reacting to the lesson they are being taught. Once I have determined what the best teaching strategy is for that individual, I like to write down in detail what steps were taken to reach that solution. By doing this, the student can use these steps as a guide for reassurance.
