A Little Bit About Me...

As a 2010 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I was President of our local Kentucky Education Association and Chair of our Student Government Association. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, which has enabled me to have a wide variety of experiences. Before earning my Elementary Education certificate, I work with elementary age students assessing their literacy levels using assessments and monitored their progress over 2 years. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style varies depending on the age and needs of the student. When I worked with younger children, I often made up a game to help the children learn the material while having fun. Even with older children I tried to make learning interactive and suit their personality. I also varied the amount and type of aid given based on the student’s needs. While I do think learning should be suited to the individual, I do require that the student focus entirely on studying during the tutoring session. I truly enjoy teaching and learning, and I have high expectations for the student's progress.
I graduated summa cum laude from Berea College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I haven taken many courses in biology and chemistry. I feel each child is unique, so their learning style is unique. I especially enjoy using the explorative method of teaching where the child is encourage to explore, examine, and discover with my assistance. I believe that each child has a gift and it is my job to discover where their strengths lie and to foster that strength and know where their weaknesses are and kindle their desire to make those stronger. I believe that every child can learn and achieve, but at their own rate and you have to instill a desire and love of learning in them and make them know they are worthy and capable of achieving what their heart desires.

I really like the Sanskrit word, “Namaste,” which I consciously use as a point of guidance in encountering people. One interpretation or meaning of this word is: The Light in me sees the Light in you. I want to honor others so that I can be of better service to them.
