My teaching style is hands on. I get to know the student I am tutoring, figure out why they are struggling and create a plan specific to their needs.
I have tutored several students in Calculus 1, algebra and geometry. I helped several students with their placement exams in math for colleges. I worked at Inver Hills Community college tutoring center tutoring Math and Science. Being a Dyslexic that worked my way through an engineering degree. I know how important teaching and learning style is. I am also working towards becoming a Barton Certified Tutor for Dyslexia.

I love to learn, and when sharing that knowledge, my ultimate goal is to leave the student with a spark that will hopefully motivate them to pursue the subject above and beyond the lesson. Motivation, learning style, and goal structure are components I consider when setting up a lesson. As a computer programmer, I tend to be task oriented. I like to break a project into smaller chunks with clear boundaries. I believe that having the student participate in defining these goals helps them focus, keeps them from getting overwhelmed, and gives them a way to measure their own success. I began my teaching career as a piano teacher in 1994, taught a pre-piano bells class & obtained licensure in Kindermusik in 1996. I obtained a BM in Piano Pedagogy in 1997. I then went out east to nanny for identical twins with Down Syndrome for a year which gave me experience with children not only academically but on a day to day basis as well as rooted me well in understanding children with special needs. I then completed a BS degree in Elementary Education & was a substitute for the school district for over 7 years. I have also been teaching piano lessons privately for 7 years now. I am currently teaching preschool as well. I enjoy all grade levels & intellects as I strive to be the best teacher I can in a variety of ways.
