I began tutoring privately,as well as,for my school's learning center during the early 1990's. I have continued tutoring privately on and off for the past twenty years. I was a substitute teacher in California and Michigan during the 2000's. I also had my own high school level classroom in California for two school years. I was hired on an "Emergency Credential" because I had my BS but no teaching credential. I was laid off due to budget cuts in June of 2003. I also taught "at-risk" elementary age children during the summer for the Glendora Unifed School District in Glendora, CA. I tutored privately for three years from 2005-2008 in south Los Angeles County and north Orange County, CA. I can provide recommendations from these clients if you are interested. My youngest students were in first grade with my oldest students attending college.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have recently graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a BA in graphic design, although all of my work experience has been with children. I started this experience in high school, as a teacher aide to a third grade class, creating lesson plans and working one-on-one. I have tutored in a professional tutoring center and privately for over 7 years working with children of all ages. The subjects I tutor include pre-calculus, advanced algebra, geometry, chemistry, biology, reading and English which I taught to kindergarten through college-level students. I first gained tutoring experience as a member of my high school's National Honor Society where I tutored math and science for middle school students. When I entered college I pushed myself to do well and have been inducted into numerous honor societies as a result. I am currently a member the following honor societies: Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Zeta and Kappa Gamma Pi. I am a 2010 graduate of Madonna University, with a BS in Biology. A Little Bit About Me...

Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I believe I have the ability to use an array of teaching styles to help children. I would enjoy the opportunity to help children learn.
As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I worked as a tutor for two years. I helped other students struggling in mathematics and biology classes. Also, my senior year in college I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Microbiolgy lab. In addition, I did student teaching for a Catholic Middle School.

I am a graduate of Macomb Mathematics Science Technology Center (MMSTC). This is a magnet program reserved for the top 72 high school students(per grade level)in Macomb County. Throughout high school I tutored my friend and neighbor, Mike, who suffers from a learning disability. I received a B.S. in Fishery and Wildlife Management (ecology, biology, and general management) from Michigan State University in 2006. I worked two years in recycling after college. I have recently worked with the big rivers biologist for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. All students can learn, but they have different learning styles. Identifying a student's strengths and weaknesses is a key step in the learning process. Whatever their particular style is, students learn best in a positive learning environment which ideally will include the following elements: positive reinforcement, a regular study plan, parental support, and a quiet environment. I have found that another key is to give the student some degree of ownership over what they learn by turning more of the responsibility for framing questions and summarizing what they have learned over to them. One way to make this work is to activate their prior learning. We learn much more of what we do than what we hear. I have a passion for learning and am not ashamed to say that I am still learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I have privately tutored students that recently arrived from Japan in English with a focus on conversation to enable them to quickly feel comfortable in a new country. As they attained conversation skills I changed my focus to education based teaching with a focus on understanding the classroom teacher and being able to participate in the classroom discussion. I have been recognized locally, statewide and nationally for my teaching skills. I have received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Math Teaching (1994), Biology Teacher of the Year Award (1997) as well as the Outstanding Educator Award (2008) to mention a few. However, the award of which I am most proud is watching my many students succeed in Life. I have taught 9th – 12th grades as well as community college and university-level courses.
