My comments on tutoring Reading : I have a Masters in Teaching in English which includes extensive experience in Reading instruction for a wide range of readers including students with dyslexia.

I have taught 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. I expect hard work and dedication. I use classroom-tested teaching strategies that include but are not limited to role-play, reader-response, kinesthetic and tactile movement, drawing, and holistic engagement in the "story-world" to help students understand and connect to the literature. I am patient.

My comments on tutoring Reading : I am very secure in my reading skills and I have received high scores on all of my competency exams.

I have been teaching and tutoring students for more than 20 years. I currently provide online as well as in person tutoring to students in the areas of phonics and reading. I am an ESL teacher for a couple of online companies in China. I work as a substitute teacher for the public school system where I live and I am also pursuing a degree in Spanish at Arizona State University. I previously taught in a small private school that I founded. The school served students in grades kindergarten through second grade and it was founded with the idea of promoting literacy through the encouragement of world language learning. I teach beginning and emergent literacy skills in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin Chinese. I have also taught in two charter schools over a period of 15 years. During that time I served as a teacher in various areas, such as Kindergarten, First Grade, PreK, and Arabic. ... read more

I am a second year student at the Universtiy of Georgia. I taught private violin lessons to middle schoolers from the fall of 2010 through the summer of 2011, and I myself have received seven years of private instruction. I have experienced numerous auditions, concerts, and other performances, as well as traveled with my high school chamber orchestra to Washington, D.C. and Savannah, Georgia. During the summer of 2012, I tutored Korean adults in the mechanics of English, including proper pronunciation, grammar, and conversational phrases. As for the other subject areas, I have taken many classes throughout grade school and now college that have provided me with a solid foundation in them.

More About This Tutor...

I start out with discussing the area of weakness with the student and then try to investigate why this might be the area of weakness. Once this is discovered, I teach the student (through examples) until they understand the topic with which they need help. Then, I observe how they perform without my guidance and see if they have learned to complete problems solo.
Most of my experience is informal with tutoring family members/church members/friends in whatever areas they were struggling. Nearly everyone was pleased with what I was able to teach them and they showed improvement. In addition to tutoring, I have also mentored. In particular, at Emory University, I have for three years served as a mentor to incoming freshmen. I have helped them become acclimated to Emory and have also helped them create plans for courses and future plans. Therefore, I am confident in my tutoring and men ... read more

Learning never ceases; so, why should you?

My teaching style is a mixture of strict and lenient. I try to form a connection with students and apply that to my teaching method (i.e. incorporating a similar hobby in a question in order for the student to understand the material better). I expect my students to give me and the other students respect- never speaking while others are speaking, no disruptions, ect. This method of teaching has shown effective and a fun learning environment. I base my curriculum around the importance of reading. Reading is the easiest and most effective way of obtaining knowledge and using it in the world.
I have had the honor of working with many kids in regards to a variety of fields. My experiences taught me responsibility, patience, the importance of learning and education, and much more. The various teaching opportunities I have been fortunate to have have impacted my social and educational li ... read more
