I have taught special education since August of 1989. I began at Dunn Middle School with a mildly mentally handicapped self-contained class. After three years I taught for one year at Clayton Primary in a multi-handicapped class. I then transferred to Four Oaks Middle School in 1993 where I continue to teach. The first year there I taught a self-contained mentally handicapped class, and since then I have taught through the inclusion model. I love to teach by using the hands on technique. I will do whatever I can to see that the student grasp what is being taught. It is so neat to watch how sometimes you will see the light flick on and you know they "have it". I also will provide hand outs and use the computer to give them extra practice. I have four children of my own and home schooled each one through elementary school and some middle school. They returned to public school for middle school where I then provided tutoring for other classmates. I know sometimes math as well and other subjects come harder for one than the other so I realize the tutoring session needs to be geared toward that particular child.
