"Teaching" was the way I supported myself through college. I was a lab instructor, university experience teacher, cultural anthropology tutor, nutrition educator, and even a gymnastic instructor. I was thankful to find the College of St. Mary's Masters of Arts in Teaching. It is a solid program that has given me the opportunity to have a formal education in teaching. In my program I have over 100 practicum hours in a middle school science classroom, I tutored AP chemistry, and I have had exposure to reading comprehension strategies in many of my classes. There are several different styles of teaching. I experienced hands on teaching through the lab courses that I taught. These experiences showed me how important hands on learning is to understanding difficult and complicated concepts. By seeing the information you are learning in a different way, you now have one more method of remembering that material. I believe that students learn best when they not only hear the information that they need to know but also know how to use and apply that information. That is why I have very hands on and demonstration oriented style of teaching. I am always patient and understanding and I love teaching.

I believe that each and every child is capable of learning. I like to make learning fun and exciting for children by relating what they are learning to the real world. For instance, if I am helping a student learn money value. I might pretend that I am customer purchasing something from the student (cashier). They then have to give me the correct change. I am a very postive and compassionate person that cares deeply about the children I teach. My students sense this and this helps them be more confident in their abilities to learn and in turn more sucessfull.
In the past I have worked as both a teachers aide/paraprofessional and substitute teacher for a total of 4 years.
