Helping and watching children learn is inherently rewarding. While skills and content must be mastered, methods can and should be tailored to the individual student. Each child has her/his own style of cognitive processing and problem solving. Attention to the learner's style is critical to the successful acquisition of skills and concepts. I strive to make learning fun. Also, I have been trained in assorted mnemonic (memory) strategies. Most importantly, I believe self esteem is an essential factor in educational growth. A favorite quote is, "Celebrate your mistakes. They are the mirrors of learning."
I earned all A's in my graded graduate courses at Teachers College, Columbia University. I believe this reflects my ability to study, learn, research and write research papers. My Master of Arts degree is in Psychology in Education. The courses for this program were in Developmental ... read more

I have a BA in English, and graduate magna cum laude. I was accepted into an Alternative Teacher LIcensing Program for the state of Colorado, and taught language arts for the 2009-2010 school year. I have passed my Praxis II exam, and I am best at working with grammar and mechanics.
I like to encourage my students to put themselves into their writing. I like to push my students to write better than what they think is their best. I take pride in following grammatical rules, and am a stickler for proper MLA formatting for research based papers. I believe all children have the right to a great education; they just need someone to push them in the right direction. I love children, and I can almost always find a way to relate to my students.

More About This Tutor...

While I do not have a bachelor's degree, through my training as a certified veterinary technician and subsequent employment in both clinical and shelter settings, I have gained strong aptitudes for science and writing skills. During my employment, I developed a strong love for any opportunity to teach and share anything and everything I was able.
I believe that my teaching style is one of patience, encouragement, along with being laid-back, considerate and easy-going. I want to take the time to make sure a subject is well understood. It's about the pace and not the race to get it right. I just love sharing what I know and seeing someone 'get it'.

I have a BS in biology with a teaching emphasis as well as an AS and AA. My college education has included classes in anatomy and physiology, geology, physics, organic and standard chemistry, zoology and botany. I have been a member of a field research team and involved in my own research project. I have tutored students in not only biology but also many other academic disciplines. I also have a broad base of life experiences.
I love to teach one-on-one or in small groups. The greatest moment for me, as a teacher, is what I call the “Aha!” that I see in a student’s eyes when he/she finally understands a troublesome concept. I believe that teaching is about empowering my students to take responsibility for their own learning. I want to help my students in clarifying their own values and provide the opportunity to explore and discover answers to the questions they create; I ... read more
