A Little Bit About Me...

My own learning style is a combination of visual and auditory, which has led me to believe flexibility is key. There is no one “best” method which works for all students, so my primary job is to help the student teach me the way he or she learns best. My aim in tutoring, regardless of learning style, is to increase understanding to a point where my student can not only perform the desired action, but also “teach” the concept back to me without assistance. I try to adapt my teaching style to the student. I keep trying different methods until we find what works best. This is probably why many of my students have told me that I am great at explaining things so they understand it. Being proficient at math is similar to being proficient at playing a musical instrument. You can’t learn to play an instrument by going to concerts and watching other people perform. Similarly, you can’t learn math by watching the teacher solve problems. I try to guide students to the correct solution and give immediate feedback while they work.
