A Little Bit About Me...

From teaching preschoolers how to read to teaching high school students how to survive (and enjoy!) Algebra, I find it rewarding to discover how individual students learn and then help them to succeed in their efforts. I love kids and am able to relate to different age levels and needs. I understand that every child learns differently and has unique strengths and weaknesses. My goal is to be able to teach children fundamental concepts that translate into solving specific problems. For example, I teach phonics as a base for reading so that students are able to use the concepts they have learned to sound out new words. I enjoy teaching a great deal and working with all ages of children. However my favored age group is adolescents. I try as much as possible to appeal to as many learning styles as I can in each situation. Not only does this increase the amount of understanding in the student, but it also increases the amount of retention. It has been my experience that if a visual learner gains understanding visually, that understanding is reinforced by other avenues, such as auditory, or kinesthetic. I always do my best to make sure that the student has learned the needed material and gained competency in whatever skill they are learning.
