My teaching journey has taken me to many different places and I've had the opportunity to work with all ages of students from 3 year olds to college-age. Specifically I have experiences with students who are from culturally and linguistically diverse backrounds and also with students with special needs and learning disabilties. In the last few years I have tutored students one-on-one in organizational skills, studying for tests, writing and editing.
I find that students (myself included) learn best when they feel safe and that they can be successful. I believe it's important to teach in the zone of proximal development and build on a student's interests. The best way to do this is begin with activities that are fun and if it's possible, to access the creative side of the brain during learning to help students to relax.

As the daughter and sibling of educators, I have been teaching since I was 6 years old; I taught a 4-year old boy to write his name at an inner-city program. As a teenager I tutored a 9-year old girl in math. After graduating college I managed an adult learning center for a local non-profit organization.
