A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed working with children of all ages. I taught dance for my high school years to younger children and I believe that has taught me a lot about teaching styles. I understand that not everyone learns at the same rate or in the same way. Students all have different styles of learning just as teachers have their different styles of teaching. Not only have I taught dance, but I also tutored through high school and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do believe ever child has that opportunity to learn if they are given the chance by a good teacher.

I just graduated in May 2009 with my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and am currently working on obtaining my Masters Degree in Human Factors Psychology. I also obtained minor degrees in English and Entrepreneurial Studies at USD. I like to tailor my curriculum to fit the particular student that I am working with. Each child learns differently and has different goals and motivations, as well as different strengths and weaknesses. Those who know me well say I have great patience. I have become very familiar with the differentiated instruction model of teaching students. Each child has an individual way of learning and it is up to the teacher to discover that way and lead or drive instruction with that in mind. I am willing to test and analize each child and see what is best for them as far as learning to read. If a child likes what they are doing they will do it more. I usually am very curious as to why a child hates to read or do math. If I look closely, the answer usually falls real close to the answer of there is a difficulty with understanding it and no one has figured out what that is yet. I am the one that accepts that challenge and carries through that process of finding the best possible answers.
