A Little Bit About Me...

Reading has always been a passion of mine. My father was a historian and an avid reader and he passed along a love of both reading and history to me. I began homeschooling my daughter two years ago, and am instilling that same love of reading in her. I have found that no matter what you do in life, a strong reader will go far. While I believe that all of the subjects taught in school are important it is my belief that reading is the most important one.
I love teaching! I didn't realize I did until I began homeschooling my daughter but I do. In fact I plan on beginning my masters in Teaching this fall. I enjoy children and working with them. I have a lot of patience and am very laid back. There is no greater joy than seeing a child's face light up when he/she suddenly "gets it." I feel that no two children learn alike, and am able to adjust to that.

My passion in life is to work with children. I love helping children learn and to see the "light bulb" go off in their head. I believe that all children can learn, but they learn in many different ways. My motto for teaching is "Learning to discover, and discovering to learn." I can sit and lecture on a subject for hours, but only when the student connects with the material will learning take place. I also believe in making learning relevant and interesting to the student. A Little Bit About Me...

My love of learning and love of working with students has motivated me to continue my education. I have earned a BA in Mus Ed (k-12) and a MA in Counseling, both school counseling and community agency counseling. I also am a private piano instructor as well as the Minister of Music at my church. I have learned problem solving and communication skills because of my many years of working with students of all levels as well as their parents. I work well with students one on one as well as large groups. I also have experience working with teenagers and adults. I was a HS band director for almost 6 yrs.
