I am drawn to education by the enjoyment of children and I am often requested as a substitute teacher because of my calm demeanor, patience and kindness with all children. Children and adults learn developmentally; by using their previous knowledge to build new understanding. I believe in helping children realize their potential by supporting them with a comfortable base of knowledge and then giving them challenges that they can successfully work through. I've taught basic English Composition for 30 years in a variety of settings including traditional, non-traditional, and proprietary undergraduate programs; additionally I've taught entry level graduate writing/research and served as department director/administrator in both traditional and prorietary settings. I've worked in tutoring/writing centers at various schools and individually tutored students ranging from middle school to PhD level throughout my teaching career. Additionally, I've volunteered in other situations as well including 4-H, Explorers (BSA), Habitat for Humanity, and other non-profit situations and served as an elected official.
