I have taught private music lessons since 2006. My primary instrument is piano. I have tutored English, Math and Science for the last 3 years. My students have achieved fantastic results. Although I do not teach to tests or scores of any kind, but only to the needs I see in the student, I have been amazed at how quickly t it reflects on their scores, and more importantly, on their self-confidence and motivation. My favorite subject is reading. I am bilingual in English and Spanish.

Ruth J - Las Cruces, NM 88007 (33.8 mi) - Elementary Science Tutor - $33.50/hr.
I got my first teaching experience as a lab instructor for undergraduate physics labs and fell in love with the profession. The best part of the experience is seeing the student grasp a concept that they felt out of reach. I enjoy coming up with inventive ways of communicating the difficult portions of math and science. Most of my students benefited from my teaching style which includes many examples and encourages a dialogue approach to difficult concepts. As a non-traditional student I recognize the necessity to create a level of confidence that inspires a student to continue their education with success. I feel that perspectives on learning and my life-experience make me an ideal contact for any student interested in mastering the topics of math, physics, chemistry, or Spanish. I am experienced in the grading and writing of lab reports and other technical forms of communication.

Juanita D - Las Cruces, NM 88005 (35.5 mi) - Elementary Science Tutor - $37.00/hr.
I graduated in 1999 from NMSU with a degree in Elem/Spec Education. While attending school, I worked in a group home for troubled teens and at a facility for adults with disabilities. But my desire to teach children led me to tutoring at a private non-profit school for K-12. I worked there two years before starting to work at a facility for troubled youth. I worked there for one term before they closed down, and then started working with treatment foster care children through Mesilla Valley Hospital, a facility for children and adults with mental disorders. Last year I returned to school to get my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Recently I retired, but am continuing to work on completing my degree. I have always loved children and work hard to make a difference in their lives. Children are very diverse learners and I believe, as teachers, we need to discover the key to what

Teaching is a very rewarding experience. I especially like to see when my students progress to a higher level. I believe all children can learn but they often have different learning styles. As a teacher, I varied my teaching style to match a student's learning style. I like to do discovery labs and give the students a little information about the lab and they would create the lab. Students are very creative when given the opportunity and motivation to be creative. At the end of a class, I would like my students as they leave the classroom to think that they learned something new and also had fun. A graduate from Centenary College of La with a BS degree in Geology and a former petroleum geologist indicates I am not immune to working hard. My experience includes working 19 years using engineering and geological knowledge to explore oil and gas reservoirs.

I love to work with children and help them to learn. I have the desire to instill in their hearts the desire to grow in knowledge and maturity. My goal is for them to do better in school by trying hard and not giving up. I try to do this using several different methods, such as direct instruction, hands on activity, question and answer, guided and oral reading, use of examples, step by step instruction, positive reward system, and teamwork. I know that a positive attitude and willingness to do my part makes a difference for them to want to do it, so I try hard to be positive. My goal is to get them to be positive, to work hard to achieve, and to be satisfied with the end results. For the time that I spent teaching, my experience included working in a newly established school in Saipan where I was involved with a class that had different age levels, such as third, fourth, seventh and eigh

When I was placed in a Third Grade classroom in the Fall of 1979 for my student teaching experience, I knew then where I belonged. This was my final semester at the University and I was taking two classes to finish my requirements to graduate in December. Working with that age of child was exactly what I wanted to do. After graduation, I obtained a job working in Special Ed. as an aide. The experience was enough to get my foot in the door. The next Fall I began teaching in a Third Grade classroom. Until I retired in 2004, I continued to teach Third as well as Second Grade with two years at the Sixth Grade level. Above my original degree I did succeed at adding 45 hours of additional classes, with no Masters Degree aquired. The simple love of learning that I exuded in the classroom setting was initially enough fuel for my fire to enjoy being in the presence of this age group. I fo
