Professor of English: to Broaden your Mind and Skills

I have taught at both the middle and high school level in the subject of English. Within that broad subject I have taught World Literature, British Literature, Creative Writing, Rhetoric, Composition and more. I am currently a Professor at San Jacinto College where I teach collegiate level Composition.
I have a hands-on approach to teaching. It is my desire to facilitate a student's own ability to self-teach, to solve and understand new problems as they occur. This type of teaching will not only improve whatever English and reading skills needing improvement, but will also translate into all other aspects of their education and life.

My comments on tutoring Journalism : Tutor Certification. Syndicated columnist.

My style is age-appropriate: I modify my approach to accommodate age, learning level, personality and a combination of abilities and interests. My philosophy is that it is the instructor that should make adjustments on behalf of the student, not the other was around. Any good teacher can accommodate any student with the ability to understand people.
Experience includes teaching in public and private schools prior to and following tutor certification. Research for Tutor Certification focused on the study and analysis of adult learning problems stemming from poor learning and education experienced of youth. The study included exchanging past negative experiences for positive ones which substantially increases current abilities and progress. College Algebra students were in the study. After finishing my undergraduate work, I served in the Peace Corps for over two years. During this time I worked with various groups in the areas of elementary education tutoring, ESL for children and adults, and small-business training. When I finished the Peace Corps I was awarded a scholarship/fellowship to Duquesne University, where I completed my Master's degree. During this time I worked half-time with a nonprofit. At the end of my fellowship this nonprofit offered me a teaching job in conjunction with West Virginia University. I recently returned from a service-learning (study abroad) trip that I led in Mexico. I have tutored children, and taught university students and adults for over 3 years.
