I am a currently a working civil engineer specializing in bridge design (steel and concrete structures). I received scores of 760 in Math on both the SAT I and II, and a score of 800 in Math on the GRE's. I have taken several high level calculus, engineering mathematics, and statistics classes at the University of Delaware, aside from receiving a 5 on both the Calculus and the Statistics AP Exams. I have tutored elementary students in the past, and was part of a 'teaching scientists' after school company briefly in college.
I believe in talking through problems using visual ideas and simplified concepts. I prefer teaching with graphics and concepts, and then relating them to formulas and equations. While I expect hard work from my students, I also have the patience to help them understand at their own pace.

As an undergraduate at Muhlenberg College, I had the opportunity to serve as a peer tutor in mathematics to incoming freshmen. I enjoyed the experience of helping other students succeed. I have a bachelor's degree in Physical Science which allowed me to gain knowledge in the fields of mathematics and physics. I decided to further my education in the field of Applied Mathematics. I belief that conceptual understanding is the foundation of learning. Teaching kids to solve a specific problem that they can't do doesn't accomplish much, in my opinion. Going back to the concept and helping them really understand what is going on, either physically or mathematically, will not only help them with the problem they have, but give them a basis for future knowledge.
