My experience as a newspaper editor helped me to develop a collaborative teaching style. I want to work with students to understand their questions and help them work through them and arrive at the conclusions on their own. Three years of experience in writing and editing as a staff member at the Grand Valley Lanthorn, a student-run newspaper at GVSU. I began as an intern and held various writing and editing jobs throughout my tenure, ultimately departing as editor in chief. I think the best way to teach is to show students how they can break down problems and find answers to questions that may, at first glance, seem overwhelming. I have yet to meet someone who is incapable of grasping a subject, and I am able to stay calm and remain patient as students begin to expand their knowledge in areas that are new to them. While I am not able to learn things for a student, my job as a tutor is to provide them with the encouragement, support, and knowledge that I have so that they can obtain an understanding of their subject.
