My experience as a newspaper editor helped me to develop a collaborative teaching style. I want to work with students to understand their questions and help them work through them and arrive at the conclusions on their own. I have a non-intimidating teaching style and want my students to walk away from the sessions not only understanding the answers to their questions, but also be able to apply that knowledge in future situations.

I have earned a degree in History from the University of Michigan and I have earned my teaching certificate and Master's degree from Wayne State University. I have taught high school for seven years and have taught numerous Science, Math and Social Studies courses. I have taught writing classes as well. I began officially tutoring four years ago, starting up a private tutoring business. Through it, I have taught ages 5 through 55 in nearly all subjects, including mathematics, science, physics, ACT, and English. I also have tutored publicly at Oakland University for one year, where I earned my tutoring certification (level 1).
My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style. I think the best way to teach is to show students how they can break down problems and find answers to questions that may, at first glance, seem overwhelming. I have yet to meet someone who is incapable of grasping a subject, and I am able to stay calm and remain patient as students begin to expand their knowledge in areas that are new to them. While I am not able to learn things for a student, my job as a tutor is to provide them with the encouragement, support, and knowledge that I have so that they can obtain an understanding of their subject.
