My last position as a teacher was at William Thomas Academy in Sumter, South Carolina; it involved curriculum development as well as provided results for State regulations. Since my hire in August 2004, I have planned, co written, and implemented curriculum. As a result, 74.6% of my students exceeded the state average for the 2005 SCISA assessment of State Standards; scores in Seventy-five point four percent of my students exceeded the state average for the 2005. In addition, I have also implemented various academic incentive programs for student enrichment. With these programs, students continue to develop pride in their efforts to engage in the learning environment.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with a BA degree in Music Education, and have eight years of experience teaching in public schools. I began my career as a music teacher at the middle school level, but soon realized that I had a passion for younger children. I began teaching 5K, and excelled at leading my students to becoming fluent readers by the end of their kindergarten year. I taught kindergarten for 5 years, and then was asked to teach second grade. For the last 6 years of my career, I have taught both Kindergarten and second grade in all academic areas, including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
I have a passion for young children, and love being a teacher. I understand that all children have different learning styles, and believe it is my job to meet each child's needs. I prefer to use a hands on approach to education. I like to have the kids get engrossed in the subject matter by reading aloud and taking part in discussion sessions.
