I have tutored three students: two middle school students in math, one high school student in AP biology. I also occasionally explain academic subjects to my friends and classmates. Through my years of experience, I've found that it is most effective to make sure the students are really thinking. When they get stuck, I ask them questions to point them in the right direction, but I almost never give them the answer unless a lot of time would be wasted otherwise. I'm also very good at catching mistakes, but instead of pointing them out right away, I usually also ask them leading questions to help them find the mistake on their own.

tutoring = 30 years: I have tutored students informally for as many years as I have been teaching. The topics I teach are difficult for many students, and some require out-of-class help. I have taught for nearly 30 years: a couple of years at a junior college in Cleveland, served as a TA in math and astronomy at OSU, then ~25 years at Denison Univ., and 4 years at a high school.
