I began tutoring in high school then in college, I majored in mathematics to pursue a career in teaching. My career took another direction yet I continued my passion for teaching others through tutoring at local non-profits. Last year, I taught 8th grade math at a local public middle school. Teaching is one of the most satisfying things I have ever done. I believe that everybody can learn, you just have to find the right teaching method for that individual. There are only a hand full of methods to choose from, they include: hands on, visual, reading, hearing or some unique blend of these. These are not the only methods, but these would cover most individuals. While I was teaching I would explain the material how I understood it. If that did not work it forced me to back up and come at it from a different angle. When I was attending Regis University, I started majoring in English and minoring in Education. I student taught and tutored two days out of the week for four hours for two and a half consecutive semesters. I absolutely enjoyed working with the students, it was the teachers that had me hang up my hat in that field. I would hear the teachers complain and witness them not helping the students with their %110. This was very disheartening. It made me think that teaching would become a job for me, and not a satisfaction of fulfilling students own dreams.
