A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being. I feel that teaching an individual how to use available resources is just as important as the actual subject. I taught for 32.5 years at Northwest Community Schools. Subjects taught Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, Sixth Grade all subjects. Seventh Grade and Eighth Grade Science and Social Studies. Middle School Phys. Ed. 20 years Adult Ecucation. Subjects taught, American Government, U. S. History, Health Issues. I currently hold a Continuing Certificate from Mich. granted in 1978, and a Professional Certificate from Florida. I retired from Michigan Public Schools in 2006 with a pension, which includes health insurance. I then relocated in Phoenix, Arizona where I taught Fourth Grade for two years. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience began with my work with troubled youth in Michigan. I worked with the Fine Arts Team using the arts to teach visually. I also used positive Peer Culture for helping students to deal with their problems. I slso taught history at the school. I have 8 years experience; I worked for WSI teacher staffing for 3 yrs. and 5 yrs. for the Battle Creek School System in grades K-12 in most subjects
I create a positive atmosphere and help students to be responsible first to themselves and then to their community. I also try to make my students aware of their potiential and guide them in processing information by first understanding the context in which it is used. Then I like to use visuals in my teaching style. I prefer to start with testing of some kind to assess the developmental level of the student.
