I am a retired Boulder valley teacher and I have taught from the preschool to college level for over 20 years. Most recently, I worked as an ESL and reading teacher. My training was modeled after reading recovery and involved one year of supervised teaching one-on-one with children who were struggling readers. The goal of this training is to help children work with their strengths as readers, rather than focusing on their weaknesses. Children learn the strategies that they need in order to be successful, independent readers. The work I do with them is very focused and begins with a thorough diagnostic assessment of their reading abilities. I have six years of experience working one-on-one with children to improve their reading. I also have extensive experience teaching and writing with both native English speakers and second language learners from the elementary to college level.

I am a fun, enthusiastic, caring, supportive, yet, particular teacher. My students learn whether they want to or not... I bring a lot of energy to the classroom and ensure that I am over-prepared for each lesson. I enjoy involving every student in a classroom setting and encourage an active, open learning environment. I also believe it is a very valuable experience to be able to work with students one-on-one. I like to work with each student to figure out his or her individual learning style and needs. I am a graduate of both the University of Colorado and Adams State College. I hold a Master's degree in Secondary Education as well as a Initial Teacher's license. In my past I have taught many years as a tennis instructor and ski instructor. I also taught at a Federal correctional Institution in Englewood, Colorado in their Education Department in 1990 and 1991. i tutored inmates for their 8th grade equivalency as well as several others through their GED's. In 2002 through 2004 I also was the training officer for Star West Aviation. My teaching style was, and always has been to use humor and patience to bring my students along and to achieve where they had failed in the past. I found, especially in the prison system, that people achieve best when you make the work interesting and also within the student's ability.
