I am a gradate of an American Sign Language interpreters program. I have been signing for four years. I have knowledge in American Sign Language, Signing Exact English, Signing Essential English, and Pidgin Signed English. I have interpreted at many different locations which has given me the knowledge of the variations of signs that are taught in a classroom an the appropriate situations in which to use them.

A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to tutoring is to try to be as hands-off as possible. By this I mean that I will not "fix" papers, nor will I write directly on a student's paper if it can be helped. I want to help the student in their problem areas by showing them examples of an area (thesis statement, grammar, citations)that needs improvement and then working with them so that they will know how to address the problem in the future. I also find that often tutors do their best work while acting as "sounding-boards" for their students; listening to the student (as each student has different needs)and then offering suggestions and ideas on how to approach difficulties.

Because I enjoy the learning environment and have been in one for 16 years, I have learned much about it. Everyone learns differently, and I feel that it is important to understand the student's easiest way to learn in order to proceed. I believe offering students the chance to use their imagination and to encourage creativity is the best approach to education.
