A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children for many years and in many different settings. I have observed so many different learning styles and I strive, as a teacher, to be flexible enough to help a child learn using their strengths. I do not expect perfection but I do expect my students to work to their potential. I also believe that my students need to feel as though they can openly discuss any problems or concerns with me. I taught Middle School band for 30 years in the public schools, followed by 9 years part-time at the respected Old Trail School in Bath, OH. My bands at Bolich Middle School in Cuyahoga Falls, OH received many "Outstanding" ratings at O.M.E.A. contests. I have also substituted in several local school districts for a wide variety of subjects, including Spanish and French. I have also tutored Spanish privately, and given private lessons on piano and flute.
I always try to start from "where the student is" and build on from starting point. I believe in positive reinforcement and that anything worth having in life requires consistent effort. I frequently am told after a day of subbing, "Mr. Burns, you are the greatest sub ever!" My wife and I also still perform as musicians in local restaurants, including several Mexican restaurants where we perform many songs in Spanish.
