I have been a physics and mathematics tutor for my fellow students at the University of Waterloo, in Waterloo, Ontario. Also, I served as a physics T.A. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before I transferred to Waterloo. Finally, I was a substitute teacher for two years at Belmont Middle School and Belmont High School, in Belmont, New Hampshire.
My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights. Guiding the student with the systematic offering of penetrating questions seems to be one of the most powerful methods to aid in the understanding of mathematical and physical phenomena.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and working with children! I feel that if a child can see, touch, taste, and/or use their body in a lesson than they can really grab the concept that is being taught and be able to connect it to real world experiences. I am easygoing person who is dedicated and passionate about teachering. I believe that all children are able to be successful when given the right surroundings and experiences. It has been said that every student will have one or two teachers that will have a lasting significant impact on his or her life. I started teaching right out of college. Taught high school and college part time for 6 years. Left teaching for the computer business where I worked for 36 years. Retired from HP in 2001. Went back to teaching. I taught at Mount Royal Academy in Sunapee, NH for 7 years. I taught College Algebra and Pre-Calculus at River Valley Community College i Keene, presently as an Adjunct faculty member.
Most Math books recommend teaching for about half the class and then let students work some problems in class. I find this works well, it allows questions and the class becomes interactive. I encourge questions while I am introducing a subject and find it gives me a chance to use different examples to get a poinnt across. Any assignments I give outside the classroom can be addressed in the next class.

As a recent college graduate, I received a dual degree in Electrical/Computer & Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. During my time there, I was a teaching assistant for Calculus I for two years. This job included conducting one hour classes 2-4 times a week to review and master basic skills needed to accomplish the course successfully. I also spent time weekly working one-on-one with students to teach concepts and review topics. I consider myself capable of helping students in any level of math up to this level and thoroughly enjoy it!
I am a firm believer that each student learns differently and the best way to teach is to find out what their style of learning is. I am a patient teacher, who works hard to find the learning style that will offer the best success for the student.

My goal is to instill the importance of good sentence structure and language because it is used at every facet of the work place. My mother has been a special education teacher for over 25 years, when i was younger and a paraprofessional substitute teacher, i realized that in some way i would like to help the developmentally disabled, especially with my love of reading and writing.
