My comments on tutoring Sculpting: Sculpting is a great medium in that it can be done in so many different ways: clay, paper-mache, found objects, recycled materials, wood. I have done several of my own sculptures in college and out, and teach children different sculpting projects throughout the year.

I go as fast or as slow as the student needs. I encourage students to try new techniques and ideas so they are self-aware of the process and learning experience that leads to self-improvement and development. During the school year, I work as a curriculum coordinator and art teacher for an after school program in Lexington, Ma. This is my 6th year of teaching stimulating and unique art projects to children in grades K-5. I have interned as a graphic designer and also had jobs as a wedding photographer. During the summer, I work as an assistant director to a summer enrichment program in Winchester, Ma. Outside of work- I am a member at large of the Boston Guild of Puppeteers, and also work on my own art which includes building my portfolio of paintings to show and sell, as well as complete small digital photography jobs.

As a Visual Arts Teacher and Special Educator, I am a resourceful, energetic person with a commitment to fostering lifelong learning in students. I am positive, outgoing, and approachable, with a talent for drawing out young people and putting them at ease. My philosophy in education is that all children are capable of being successful in school and life and their experiences and accomplishments should feel both enjoyable and rewarding through their own desires and perseverances. Given the rapid advancements in technology, I have come to realize that students can access much of the information needed to be successful in life. With this in mind and given the ever changing classroom philosophies around methods and instruction, I believe teachers’ curriculum and lesson plans can also include ways to support their roles as facilitators in a classroom where the teacher then guides student

I find that my interactions with children, or even young adults, always involve establishing a personal, familiar connection on which we then build a relationship of mutual growth and education. I possess a calm, patient manner in conjunction with an impassioned enthusiasm for reading and writing. I believe that reading comprehension and writing competency are two of the hardest, as well as most important, skills that kids of this impending generation need to become passionate about. My best language arts teachers always made sure that students were invested in the material, and therefore my strategy with children definitely involves engaging their interests as well so that they learn naturally. As an English major, I have graduated with exceptionally strong skills in written and verbal communications, as well as an analytical mindset. I was in the teaching program at the Feinstein Schoo

My tutoring practice employs the Socratic method to help students help themselves become better writers, self-editors, and critical thinkers. I do not take a red pencil to their work and "fix it" for them. I do not put words into their mouths to then put into their pens. Their voices remain their own. A strong tutor welcomes and encourages this ownership and self-expression while teaching at the same time. A strong tutor also provides steady, patient guidance and gentle correction, but true learning takes place when students "see the light" for themselves -- a direct result of the collaborative effort involved in the tutoring experience. I discovered the reward of helping others learn as a high school tutor. Later, as an English major, I tutored in our university's Writing Center. After graduation, I was asked to continue as a tutor/writing consultant for eleven more years.

My teaching style is that of the constructivist approach. I believe that with the proper tools and guidance, students should be allowed to think independently and creatively. Ideally, I believe that when students are supported appropriately, they have the ability to learn to problem solve on their own, ultimately preparing them for the world, both inside and outside of the classroom. I feel strongly that students excell within a comfortable and nurturing environment, therefore, I strive to create that inside my classroom. I am certified K-12 in Art Education. I have worked outside of the public school system as a tutor and summer art teacher since graduation. I have also worked for a non-profit women's health foundation, where I created and implememnted educational programs for women in transitional shelters. I maintain my focus on art as a freelance artist and continually work wit

As an aspiring teacher, my real passion lies in the art of reading and writing. I am eager to share my love for english with students. Tutoring is an exciting form of teaching in which I will be able to work one on one with students at all different levels, and truly see their improvement as time goes on. I believe that independent tutoring will undoubtedly benefit students at all learning levels. Molding my own instruction to the learning styles of each student will be the way I form my curriculum for them. Individualization is essential to the positive and effective learning environment I plan to create. Having recently earned my Bachelors of Arts Degree from Assumption College in Worcester, MA, I returned home to Rhode Island to pursue my certificate in Secondary Education. With a major in English Literature, I plan to earn my english teaching certificate at a secondary level from P

After earning my B.F.A. from V.C.U. (magna cum laude) with double minors in art history and Italian, I moved to New York and worked in the creative, behind-the-scenes world of theatre and television. After six years of production work my husband and I moved to Rhode Island, whereupon I fell in love with teaching. For the past two years I have attended Providence College, working towards a post-baccalaureate degree in English Language Arts and secondary education certification. During my studies at P.C. I have maintained the same level of academic excellence as demonstrated in my undergraduate coursework. In addition to student-teaching full time in Woonsocket, RI, I also teach adult education classes in academic writing and college prep. My teaching style is more along the lines of the Montessori system. Given the freedom and much direction from the tutor, the student will often "discover" the essence of the lesson. In discovering the essence of the lesson, the student will take ownership. In taking ownership, the student in turn will develop pride, self worth, and a thirst for more knowledge and more successes. I have a passion for knowledge, and have tutored high school and college students in the area of History, reading, and writing composition. I love teaching, and watching the student progress and excel!

My experience as art instructor provides me the opportunity to witness the valuable role art plays within the lives of children and young adults. As art students gain confidence in their skills they gain confidence within themselves. My goal is to encourage students to express themselves creatively while generating a life-long enthusiasm for art. Each student is a valuable and unique individual, and my teaching style reflects this. As art instructor I am a valuable resource of technical skills. However, there is no "right" or "wrong" way to make art. I have set lesson plans and objectives-- but students are encouraged to create art according to their artistic vision. This gives students the ability to further pursue their artistic goals. Art and education has always played an integral part in my life, as witnessed by my college degree and professional career. As a college student I was taught various pedagogical methods. Then being a professional teacher and tutor I developed my own personal style. My main believe as an educator is that every child needs individual approach. Patience, tolerance, and dedication are integral parts of productive teaching. I try to understand the child’s inner world; it helps to unfold the student’s potential more fully. Depending on the age and background of the student I combine instructions, repetitions, special assignments, and making learning fun in different proportions. I give you and your child my best practice and knowledge; it leads to achieving excellent academic results. My goal is to cultivate a conscientious student and successful person.
