A Little Bit About Me...

I have enjoyed learning since the day that I remember a light turning on for me. I struggled as a student until one day something clicked when sitting with my tutor. From that moment forward I began tutoring from my undergraduate years all the way up through my graduate program in as many subjects as time would allow. I have always had a knack for explaining things in a way that students understand and wont forget. I discovered that most problems in education stem from a missing piece and not from a developmental or learning disorder. I am a hands on type of a tutor, I start from the basics and work my way up to their current subjects, so that they can build on a good foundation, understanding the basics is the most critical step to understanding the complexities of Algebra and above, and how the sciences start to get more complex in human anatomy and physiology.
In my years of education, I found that some of the methods used for teaching these subjects were inadequately explained, therefore causing students not to truly understand how to apply mathematics and science in school and their every day life. The teaching style I have is really a mix of all styles. I was exposed to teaching classes as an undergraduate student. One class really taught me the importance of building a teaching style with all of the learning styles involved. Whether it is visual, kinesthetic, audio, or reading, a good teacher will take the time to incorporate all of these into their style. I think this is so important especially when working with children because a child is at a very impressionable age with great imagination. When all of these styles are incorporated it brings the learner a well rounded approach that allows them to stay engaged and adapt to all styles of learning, making them a well rounded student.
