I love math. I find it fun, challenging, and very interesting. When I tutor students, I try to portray my excitement for the subject so they see that it is not intimidating and so they are more willing to work to solve a problem. My hight school math teacher encouraged me by her passion and I have taken that into how I tutor and help others. As a mathematics major, I worked in the math lab all four years of my college experience. I would tutor others with their math and help students study for exams. I always try to involve students in the lesson a great deal and to make sure that they are answering many questions throughout the lesson. My undergraduate degree is in French however I took extensive coursework in mathematics and chemistry and have a good understanding of all the sciences. I then begin focusing on the area where the student is having difficulties. It may be that the student requires help with homework as well as review of fundamentals. I feel the need for tutoring is the need to simply obtain information in a form that is different from the one presented in the classroom. As a tutor, I work to break things down into their constituent pieces and explain each of these pieces in turn. This is a more time-intensive method of instruction, of course, as the breaking down of information is totally dependent on the way it must be done for it to make sense to the student. Tutoring allows this method to be used, as one-on-one, this method is just as quick as the standard schoolroom methods.
