My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I have student teaching experience in the elementary school setting.

My teaching style incorporates all learning styles, because I am a firm believer that we all learn differently. I am a very patient and passionate teacher. Being excited about the subject is key to being a successful teacher. However, I expect my students to be motivated and to give 100 percent effort to their studies.
I studied Elementary Education during my undergraduate. During this time, I was a student teacher on several different occasions. I assisted the home room teacher and independently planned and taught lessons to the students. I have worked with grades 1 to 5 as a student teacher. I enjoyed teaching and was a very passionate teacher, but I realized that work as a social worker would allow me to help my students on a more personal level. I believe that students need guidance and structure in order to reach their highest potential. In the classroom, instruction can only be differentiated so much. Individual tutoring would allow me the chance to really meet a student at their level and understand their learning style.

A Little Bit About Me...

After learning various teaching and learning styles at Indiana State University, I feel it is important to find each child’s unique learning style. After this is accomplished, I then apply the teaching styles that the student will learn best from. I enjoy using visuals and hands-on activities when working with a student. I am a kid at heart and I feel this is why I connect with children so easily. I feel this is equally important when working with children. I have worked with children through a number of ways. I assist children in 4-H during the fair. I help the children in the horse and pony club by educating them on proper grooming and showing techniques. Having two wonderful elementary teachers, I was inspired to become a teacher. I graduated in 1988 with an Elementary Education degree. I began my career as a teacher's aide but soon decided to be a stay-at-home mom to my two children. In 1994, I began to home teach my three children. I graduated my youngest in 2008. In 2004, I substitute taught for two local school districts. In spring 2008 I renewed my teaching license. I received my first teaching job at a Christian school in Indianapolis where I taught first grade. The school downsized so I resigned allowing the tenured teachers to keep their jobs. (I was the last hired, therefore would have been the first to go). Since that time, I have been a substitute teacher and a tutor.
