From age seven, I have had a passion for teaching and public speaking. I am involved with a continuing education program that hones speaking and teaching ability. In high school, I helped to pilot and served as captain of the Speech and Debate team (National Forensics League). I also worked as a Teacher Cadet. I took four years to volunteer at an educational center after high school where I completed an advanced course in public speaking. I was a full-time volunteer minister for 15 years total, and I dedicated much time to working with troubled and at-risk youths. For a year, I volunteered with Lapsits for Literacy. I have been a substitute teacher for the last 25 years in different areas of the country where I have moved. I home-schooled my 2 children for 12 years mostly when I lived in Alaska. My strongest area of teaching is in English, and taught high school English as a full-time temporary position for a teacher on pregnancy leave. I worked first hand with professor and teaching assistant and have learned what they are looking for. I believe in teaching concepts and helping students fully understand ideals rather than students just memorizing facts. This way no matter what the professor asks they will know how to answer questions and ace exams. If they just memorize things, they can get confused and get answers distorted. I believe in hands on learning and teaching. I would make "Jeopardy" games to quiz students and also have fun at the same time. By quizing on concepts that are being taught, it gives insight to what the student is understanding and therefore, I can adjust and clarify things that the student is not understanding. A Little Bit About Me...

During my sophomore year in college, I tutored a 10th grader in geometry for two semesters. I also tutored him and one of his peers for one semester in Algebra II. I then got a job as a laboratory teaching assistant. I taught laboratories for non-biology majors for 2 years, which gave me the ability to explain the subject matter in a concise way that the students could understand.
