Although instructors/tutors have a preferred teaching style, I will often mix in some elements of other styles. If I wish to take a more open approach to my teaching, I include a blend of various styles which is very effective. Teacher-centered, where the teacher is expert and authority in presenting information works well with students who need little direction from the instructor, and/or those who accept responsibility for their own learning. While in other situations, I will take a learner-centered approach thus viewing my role as more of a facilitator of student learning.

I graduated with my Master's in Chemical Engineering in 1985 and have used that experience and my life experience to excel at the tutoring that I have done over the last 15+ years. I have tutored all levels of mathematics, high school and college Chemistry and SAT/ACT preparation and study. My education has been invaluable to my ability to help students excel.

I love to teach. I have experience with 5-50 years old and, if pressed, could not name a favorite group. I believe that everyone can learn; some of us just process information in different ways. As a tutor it is my job to discover how a student processes information and adapt my lesson to accommodate them. Learning can be both fun and serious, as long as it is productive.

I enjoy working with young people and making an impact on their academic success. I don't know if I have a particular teaching style, but I believe that education is not a "one size fits all" proposition and good educators must adapt their style to fit the needs of their student which I strive for every time I meet a new student.
Although I do not have a degree in Education, I have years of experience as a teaching assistant, teacher, tutor and curriculum designer. My experience mostly focuses on helping students improve their writing skills, but I also work with students with their reading comprehension since they go hand in hand. I graduated from Loras College, a private liberal arts school in Dubuque, Iowa, with a degree in Elementary Education.
