From January 2006 through August 2008, I worked part-time as a freshman composition instructor, writing lab tutor, and teaching assistant for the English department at UNT. As an instructor, I taught two classes per long semester and one, intensive summer session. During the fall semesters, I taught Composition I, which introduced students to a variety of writing concepts, such as the personal essay and the visual text. The students wrote five papers, three to five pages in length, with each paper designed around one of the concepts. For those exercises, I emphasized the importance organization, grammar, and syntax rather than content. My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I have attended many writing workshops and know a large amount of writing prompts and exercises to get the creative juices flowing.

I am individually based and able to change my teaching style to best fit the students needs.
I worked for an organization called AS220. It is an arts organization with a youth program that works inside the juvenile detention facility and also has a community program for youth in group homes and recently released from prison. My first position was incorporated art into the curriculum of classrooms in the juvenile detention facility to enhance the learning experience of the students by making it hands-on. My end position was as Managing Director. During that time, I studied and implemented art programs to teach job readiness skills and finding innovative ways for learning to take place. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe there are three steps in learning: instruction, practice and review. In the instruction phase, the teacher takes the reins in the class and explains the concept in full. In the practice phase, students try to apply the concept on their own with teacher support. In the final stage, when the concept comes up again, the teacher relies on the students to apply the concept independently. Of course, if the students cannot apply the concept independently, it may be necessary to re-visit step one. As a teacher and tutor, I stress these steps, and make sure the students are encouraged and praised the entire time.
