When I was working for a slate roofing company in Columbus, OH I was in charge of training their staff in company policy and personal efficiency. The executives were easy enough to train, but many of the roofers had an eighth grade education at best. I spent extensive time with these individuals helping them learn to read and express themselves better so they could lead more dignified lives and have more opportunities in life. I also have experience home-schooling students of various ages for a group of parents, with an emphasis on improved literacy. Teaching experience in class environments and one-to one is over 7 years. I'm one of those lucky ones who loves their profession! I'm a friendly but demanding tutor students feel comfortable to learn with. I also speak Russian, German, some Spanish and a little bit Italian. I tried a modern form of teaching in the beginning of 2011 - teaching online, it's very creative and convenient. If you live close, we can have lessons in person, at the library or at home.
Depending on the area we need to work, the focus of the lesson will vary, but more often my students need all four skills to develop (speaking, listening, writing and reading). I strongly believe in the communicative approach in which I'm internationally certified. I'm open to my students wishes and preferences and choose activities for lessons accordingly.

I graduated with my BS in CSD and am now going for my Master's. I have worked with children of all ages specifically in literacy, writing, and speech. I am comfortable teaching up to and including Algebra,any history, and elementary school science.
I don't just want to regurgitate information to a student; I want them to learn. I allow them to try to complete and assignment, and if they ask questions, I think of the child's learning style.
