In the classroom my teaching is as interactive and engaging as my skills and students allow. One-on-one teaching is very Socratic. I guide and coach the student to learn for themselves by understanding their most effective learning styles, their strengths and weaknesses, their motivations and frustrations. I believe in building confidence through success and positive reinforcement. I believe in striving for understanding over rote memorization and will challenge students to apply what they learn through probing and thought-provoking questions and challenging problems.
Will update in future. In summary, almost 30 year in corporate MIS/IT professional and management roles including adult technical education. I enjoy helping people, particularly kids. It's a very good feeling to help kids understand so many of the concepts in science, math and computers that tend to stump them. I am an easy going and focused individual. I generally teach kids by relating the subject to something they are interested in. There is a very good example of this in the movie "Big", where Tom Hanks character is teaching algebra to a boy who likes basketball. This is a technique that I use frequently. I believe very strongly that kids need to understand the concepts underlying each problem so they can solve it through understanding and not just rote memorization.
I have BS degrees in both Physics and Nuclear Medicine. I was formerly a certified nuclear medicine technologist. I have worked as an engineer in the NASA community for much of my life and have a strong background in computers and software engin ... read more

I took every math course offered by a 4 year college, student taught for one 6 week session, and took some educational courses. After home educating my 4 children for 17 years, I returned to school to complete an AA degree in liberal arts and a BA degree in sociology. I now work as a math teacher working with children who range in age from 9-17 and have special needs.
I never give up on a child or an adult. I recently tutored a law enforcement official to help him understand and pass algebra. He didn't think anyone could help him. The schools told me my son would never learn to read or write. He is my only child out of four who reads lengthy books for pleasure. Everyone has a different style of learning. My teaching methods I alter to suit those needs. I spent three years trying to help my dyslexic son learn to read one sentence. I have patience and I love helping people. I a ... read more

I completed my undergraduate studies at Florida Tech graduating near the top of my class while earning a B.S. in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Engineering. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics while maintaining a 4.0 GPA in my graduate course work. In addition to my graduate course work I am also working as a graduate student assistant, or GSA, teaching freshman calculus classes and tutoring students. I am comfortable with many areas of methematics and I am confident I will be able to facilitate learning for students of many different skill levels.
I believe everyone is capable of being successful in mathematics. It is only a matter of being trained. I am very meticulous and detail-oriented. I provide insight into the nuances of each particular problem and promote practice, because in the end the only way to do math is to practice math.

A Little Bit About Me...

The most important part of teaching is to teach students the principle or concept behind a subject. I do not believe in making students memorize absurdly large lists of facts in order to pass a test. Learning should be more fundamental than that. When a student has been successfully taught something, the student should be able to solve an array of problems with a common theme.
At college I worked as a tutor for two years in the areas of chemistry and mathematics. I earned BA's in chemistry and biochemistry and have some laboratory experience. Having been educated at a liberal arts school has also given me the opportunity to study philosophy and sociology. I also write well, as writing is emphasized in all disciplines of study at Knox. Previous to my college education, I was also active in my tutoring program in high school.

A Little Bit About Me...

My family have been teachers for many years starting with my grandfather and continuing with my mother and my sisters. I enjoy guiding students into areas of knowledge that eventually surpass my own abilities. With today's emphasis on math and science I feel I have a unique ability to make a difference in the lives of our children. My learning abilities were revolutionized by a single teacher in 4th grade that took the time and patience to teach me how to read. I have dyslexia but am an avid reader due to her efforts. I have the patience and persistence to make a difference in the lives of my students.

I was raised in the Montessori teaching environment, so I am very involved with hands-on teaching methods, and relating subjects to real life experiences. I enjoy watching children grow and progress into self-motivated, independent individuals, who are self-confident in many areas. I believe all children no matter what age have the potential to do amazingly well in school and with their education depending on how much individual attention is placed on them, including constant positive reinforcement.
While I was in college I began working as a teachers assistant at a Montessori School, I soon started privately tutoring students after school at the same location. I am a very hard working, organized, and outgoing person. I tutored students in Math, English, History, Behavioral Sciences and also taught private dance lessons.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am extremely passionate about Mathematics education. I believe that Math can be fun and accessible to every student. My goal is to help students to understand why the answer is true because this is the only way they can comprehend the concepts to carry them forward. I use an inquiry based approach combined with thorough explanations and example problems.
I am a recent graduate of the University of South Florida with two degrees in Mathematics and Statistics and two minors in Business and Music. I began tutoring my junior year of college and worked with college students in all levels of math, statistics, and business. I have tutored high school students in the classroom through the AVID program as well as in an online classroom setting. These experiences covered all high school level mathematics classes. Of the essence in tutoring is to make the subject pertinent and fun, as well as applicable to everyday life. For small children, we have phonetics to help the child master sounds and words. I do use Ipod teaching games to involve the child actively. Obviously for older children, who may have trouble expressing themselves, increasing vocabulary usage is of the utmost importance, otherwise compositions are redundant and lacking depth/style. Here is a feed for one of my blogs http://hubpages.com/author/vrajavala/latest/?rss As I indicated, I have a B.A.in Philosophy and later studies in Art. Later, in 1975, I decided to return to obtain a DMD at BU. After that I joined the Army and served as an Army dentist. Due to events in my life following my brief sojourn in the Army, I traveled abroad to India and Asia. Upon returning, I continued to study, but this time in more spiritual ma ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My goal is to provide the best education possible. I would use all the learning styles while tutoring a person to evaluate and develop the learning style which best fits the individual. I believe anyone can learn and have fun doing so, it is the teacher or his style or any combination which hinders the student.
I am a college graduate with degrees in finance and real estate. Through the years I have educated myself through higher learning in all areas of academics. Years ago I performed all the requirements needed to graduate a four year college, one of which is interaction with other students in a study group atmosphere and either learning or teaching each other. I have always loved learning and teaching people which I believe qualifies me to tutor young people.
