My comments on tutoring French : I have a reading knowledge of French.

I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975. I taught at Temple Judea Pre-School in Fort Myers as an assistant teacher; I assumed duties when the teacher was absent. While working in various non-teaching positions I translated for Spanish speaking patients and trained Spanish speaking new employees. I speak both Spanish and English without an accent in either language.
I think that language should be taught by sentences rather than by conjugation of language parts. It is important that a student thinks in the language rather than translate; the student has to feel the language. As a fifty-six year old widow who has raised a child I have the maturity and patience to help children learn.
