Learning, in my experience, is best done in an environment with a minimum of anxiety and performance stress. I develop an individualized learning strategy that builds up student confidence and interest to increase stress tolerance required for testing situations. I teach to a mastery learning approach appropriate for language instruction. I present the material first in accordance with the text presentation, and then drill and quiz to ascertain the level of comprehension over the next several days. I ask all students to answer sample questions, and I am looking to see who does not understand what, and why. When deficiencies are discovered, I represent material in as many different ways as are ultimately needed to ensure comprehension and success.
I have been a high school teacher of Latin and ancient Greek, for three school years, and I spent an additional school year as a high school librarian and study skills course teacher.
