My style is patient, respectful, fair and adaptive. The goal is to find what works well for the student, not take a rigid one-size-fits-all approach that a classroom may employ. I start looking right away for “What is missing?” I have seen many students who are perfectly capable but struggle because they missed a fundamental building block. Learning is always difficult. This is normal and I make sure students remember that. There is a balance to be struck where the student is pushing hard enough to improve but not so hard that they withdraw from the learning process. I began as an English major then graduated in Physics with honors, cutting edge research experience in both academia and industry, as a published writer, photojournalist and poet. As a result, I can understand why some very intelligent people who perform well with the arts can sometimes be frustrated by the math and sciences
