I began teaching with students who required a significant amount of intervention to succeed on their grade level. While I was in Atlanta I also worked with the after school tutoring program for at-risk students. After my year in Atlanta I returned home and began teaching Special Education in Mobile County, where I also worked with the county in an after school program tutoring students who required more intervention. I challenge students to overcome their difficulties and do not allow them to persist repeatedly in ignorance and misunderstanding. Rather, I require my students to learn and extensively practice even the most basic concepts until they are no longer problems, and this allows the students to move on to more complicated concepts, but, as needed, I patiently explain any concepts that are unclear.
