I can identify and help students with learning disabilities because I myself have a learning disability. Although I myself was considered to be a slow learner and I had (and still have) dyslexia, I never the less taught myself how to study and how to get through high school, college, and graduate school. During this past school year I was a practicum student in a second and third grade self contained 15-1 classroom. This placement gave me the opportunity to teach math, science, and reading to students with learning disabilities and various instructional needs. During student teaching I taught in a fifth grade regular education classroom as well as in a learning workshop.
