A Little Bit About Me...

Through earning my degree in biomedical science, I have accrued a significant amount of experience in both chemistry and biology. My passion has always been for the sciences, but I also minored in International Relations. I am well versed in all of the topics covered in my major and minor as well as several others. As a worker in employ of the school of sciences, I have been asked to tutor students in general and organic chemistry, physics and history and those students which I have tutored saw significant improvements in their test scores, while at the same time enjoying the experience of learning by understanding concepts, rather than memorizing information.

I enjoy teaching because it helps students as much as it helps me. Being able to explain material helps retain knowledge and skills associated with the subject matter. I enjoy seeing students and colleagues be successful in their learning experience.

I have a great deal of experience training fellow employees and have devised the system of show them once, let them do it once while talking them through it, and then let them do it once without assistance. This system also translates to teaching. The last step is the most important; it forces the student to think for him or herself and instills confidence that the problem is not beyond his or her level of understanding. It is very important to teach students how to figure things out for themselves – probably the most important lesson I learned at UVa.
