My comments on tutoring Aerospace Engineering : Fimiliarity associated with metallic materials and processes in the Aerospace Industry

I try to fully understand and assess the student’s needs to better resolve issues surrounding the subject matter. I encourage and stimulate student participation through real life experiences, examples, and applications to facilitate the students understanding of the subject matter. I promote dialogue around the subject matter to facilitate the student’s own resolve, constantly stressing the relevance of the subject matter through real world examples to illustrate the practical application of the information and skills learned in class.
I have BS and MS degrees metallurgical/materials engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, with 30-plus years experience in the metals industry. My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups. I look forward to working with you or your children to produce results they can be proud of.
