In the process of earning my BA in History (minor in Archaeology), I became familiar with a broad range of historical subjects. My certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) gave me a familiarity with mathematics and statistics, as well as conventions of scientific research and reporting. My MA required a publication-ready thesis, which would not have been possible without organization and self-motivation.
It is widely acknowledged that students learn in a variety of ways. In a tutoring environment, I believe in discovering each student’s optimal learning strategy, as well as identifying techniques for making other styles of teaching accessible. I think that teachers need to be flexible, and be willing to adapt their teaching style to suit the needs of their students. This is especially true for tutors who are often involved in a one-on-one relationship with those they tutor. I'm patient and respectful of the difficulties students have with expressing their thoughts in words. It's not unusual that they get frustrated trying to fit them into what can seem like a formal and obstuctive grammatical framework. Math is also a subject with which people often have difficulty. Being empathetic to their struggles helps to overcome them. My experience has been that most who struggle with it do pretty well with math if they make the effort.

I like explain the problem to the students and then let them work on few problems on their own. I would then correct the problems that the students were working on and ask if they need any questions. If the students have questions or if they did not get the right answer I would then go over the problems together with the students and have them practice until they have the strategy down.
I have been working for a local High School for 3 years now as an instructional assistant. Currently I have 3 math classes. I have 2 pre-algebra classes and one geometry. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate of Fordham University, where I majored in Film Studies and minored in Visual Arts. During my time there I honed my skills in painting, graphic design, filmmaking and writing (both creative and academic). Recently I worked with the Tribeca Film Institute on the Tribeca Teaches program, coordinating the in class production of seven short documentaries made by middle and high school students in the South Bronx and Brooklyn that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Last summer, I worked at the West Side Y in New York City as the program coordinator for Summer Arts Camp, where I worked with children from the ages of 6 to 13 in writing producing and performing a musical based on “Where the Wild Things Are.”
