I graduated from the UConn with a B.S. in physics and a minor in mathematics. Because I have used calculus and linear algebra on a daily basis as a means of solving problems I have developed a fundamental understanding of mathematics; an understanding that only someone who has used thse mathematical tools extensively can achieve. I have been tutoring for the past four years. I began tutoring at UConn my junior year and was quickly the most popular physics and calculus tutor on my shift. I have found that the best way to teach math is through analogy and real world examples. I prefer to teach general as opposed to specific methods, as these are more widely applicable. However general methods appear to be best taught through specific examples and with a great deal of patience. I am also a great fan of student encouragement as nothing can be done by the student if hey lack the necessary confidence.
