My comments on tutoring Math : Tutored for several years in Supplemental Education Services (SES) to prepare students for FCAT; also provided GED and college readiness classes in basic Math and Reading skills.

I believe that all students can and will achieve academic success given appropriate instruction; i.e., instruction that is differentiated according to students' specific needs, learning styles, interests, and personal goals. As a classroom teacher and as a personal tutor, I have seen almost miraculous results in a relatively short period of time, both in terms of academic achievement and student confidence. Math is one of my top subjects!

Bachelor in Electrical Engineering - Cambridge University, England. MSEE - McGill University, Montreal, Canada. I have tutored students for the past 35 years from Grades 5 to 8 in math subjects. I have found that Algebra is a subject that most students have difficulty with and I have specialized in Algebra. I ONLY tutor in math, unlike others that tutor in any subject. I CAN help you. Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.
After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. I try to present each subject area as a sample problem and show EXACTLY how a solution is reached. Then I invite the student's participation with a view toward understanding the student's thinking. While accuracy in math is vital, understanding the steps involved is crucial.
