A Little Bit About Me...

As a math major, I tutored my peers throughout college. While I can tutor almost any math subject and several science subjects, my favorite subject to teach is algebra. I have found that those who struggle with higher math, including calculus and differential equations, often struggle due to lacking a solid foundation in algebra. If I can help you succeed in algebra, it will set you up well for future math and science courses.

I am very flexible with my communication style, and can easily and quickly assess and tailor my teaching style with whomever I am teaching. I like thinking of sharing knowledge as a mutual endeavor, and less like a one way street. While I may "know" more about a particular subject, it is always refreshing to share knowledge with others who may develop a different, unique, and interesting perspective with the material, as human development and advancement does not happen alone. I firmly believe children often have the best ideas, as they are unhindered by the nay sayers of the adult world, and tend to explore with their imagination and sense of wonder.
As one of only 60 graduates in the Biochemistry&Molecular Biophysics program, I have extensive training in mathematics, physical/organic chemistry, and biophysics. My double major in Molecular&Cellular Biology couples biological s ... read more

Children and adults learn in different ways. Visual, auditory, kinesthetic are three ways that people can learn, I happen to be mostly kinesthetic. I alter how I teach depending on what my students need and what the resources are. I do use a constructivist teaching style to do this. I do believe that a student rises to the expectations of the instructor. I also believe that the responsibility of learning should be increasingly the students as they take over their own education away from the instructor. While the instructor is giving over the job of education to the student they should still contribute to broadening the students knowledge horizons by offering challenges.
When I was a kid I used to ask questions about things. My questions were usually of the natural sciences bent. I was eight. As an adult, knowing I was going to have a daughter, I discovered that I needed to be re ... read more

To listen is to learn; this goes hand-in-hand with asking questions. In order to learn, one has to process information at his own pace. Questions are sometimes more important than answers. I also believe a seed can be planted along the way. In other words, as one proceeds learning, a new concept can be introduced that might not make sense at the time, but will spark recognition later. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. I love to inspire others, and I strive to make a difference in lives.

I believe I have an uncanny ability to break down & analyize any math problem to its simplist components, re-word it into an understandable form, and deliver several different solution options in order for the student to confidently answer - even when it presents itself in different ways.
Unfortunately, I am not able to document any particular periods of time as a tutor or teacher; however, with my experience in the medical imaging field, and with a strong background in physics & math, I believe I poscess a keen apptitude for technical subjects.
