A Little Bit About Me...

I like to incorporate a sense of humor in my teaching - I believe when children can relax they are much more open to learning. I am also sensitive to children's different learning styles whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic, and tailor my approach accordingly. No two sessions are ever the same! Each student has unique needs and challenges and my job is to work "through the maze" and carry the message to the brain. I try to use practical and relevant examples whenever I can and appeal to the student's personal frame of reference so the goal of really "learning" versus "memorizing" can be met.
I have been a substitute teacher for the past two years covering all grade levels from pre-k three up to senior year in high school. I am a Master's Degree candidate in Elementary Education at Wilmington University. I enjoy students at every level and am amazed at what a difference ... read more

I have a reputation as a highly skilled teacher and a very patient, compassionate person. I enjoy working with adults or children of every age, background, and skill level. As an undergraduate at Muhlenberg College, I had the opportunity to serve as a peer tutor in mathematics to incoming freshmen. I enjoyed the experience of helping other students succeed. I have a bachelor's degree in Physical Science which allowed me to gain knowledge in the fields of mathematics and physics. I decided to further my education in the field of Applied Mathematics. I tutored for one full year as a teacher's assistant at Delaware State University. I had the opportunity to tutor students on a one-on-one basis and as a whole class. This was a positive experience because I got to see the student's growth throughout the semester.
After having the opportunity to tutor one-on-one and as a whole class, I have discovered that each student learns in a unique way. Some of the students were visual learners, while others needed more tactile experiences. Other students benef ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

After college I worked for three years.During that time I applied and received a scholarship to the Medical College of Pennsylvania, from which I graduated in 1994. I completed an Internal Medicine Residency at MCP in 1997. After residency I worked as an attending physician in Pittsburgh from 1997 to 2000, and in Berlin, Maryland, from 2001 to 2004. In January, 2004, my wife became severely ill, and I decided to take time off to raise my two young daughters. I taught at the Dawn Training Center in Wilmington, DE, from May to October, 2006. I also have extensive experience teaching junior housestaff and Nurse Practitioner trainees.
I have a fairly informal teaching style, and I tend to use a lot of humor. I try to connect the information I am trying to convey to what the student already knows, rather than simply provide facts to be learned by rote and regurgitated on an exam.
