I have held positions of CFO, controller, and divisional analyst which enabled me to gain extensive experience in the private sector of business and advanced technical skills in microsoft excel and various accounting systems. Presently, I am an adjunct instructor at teaching college algebra.
I enjoy teaching and believe that anyone can learn mathematics if given the proper help and assistance. I am currently an intervention specialist for students in grades 5-8, specializing in reading content and reading strategies. I worked as a retired teacher in the Adams Wells Special Services Coop for 3 years (2006-2009)as a teacher's aide with special needs students both in the elementary and high school levels. Those children varied from autistic, cerebal palsy, Attention Deficit Disorders with and without Hyperactivity. I have recently graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with my BS in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. I have had the opportunity to tutor students both one and one and in a group setting during this time. I then begin focusing on the area where the student is having difficulties. It may be that the student requires help with homework as well as review of fundamentals. I was a tutor while in college. I tutored students in History, Accounting, and Greek. I was a double major:Accounting and Christian Ministry. I was a substitute teacher in Indiana from 1990-1994. I taught everything from Kindergarden to High School. I was a couple of teacher's personal sub. I also was involved with the program that dealt with students with developmental disabilites. Currently, I am homeschooling my daughter. She is very gifted, so we are letting her interests lead us. She is the hardest one I have ever taught, but that is because I am so close to her.
My teaching style is based on the student. One teaching style does not fit everyone. I have to see how the student learns and then adapt my teaching style to meet his or her needs. I love helping people, and especially when they get it. That is so rewarding.
