Experienced Tutor for Accounting, Algebra, Math etc

I have been an accountant for over 20 yrs and have trained office staff and accountants during this time. I have tutored my son's friends in college accounting. I was a substitute teacher, including long term positions that lasted 6 months, for 5 years. I mostly worked in middle school and H.S. Did tutoring during school lunch hours. I apply my real life skills and academic knowledge to my teaching.
I am patient. I go over problems several times to be sure you know them. I do not move on to the next skill until you have mastered the current skill. I can give you extra worksheets to keep practicing your skills. We can do online training or meet at a public place (bookstore etc) for the lessons.

A Little Bit About Me...

I truly and honestly enjoy working with children of all ages to help them achieve their highest potential. I am highly efficient at helping students with homework, understanding lessons, and prepping for examinations. When working with young children (grades k-6), I try and make learning as fun and relaxing as possible. Young children also need a lot of attention to ensure they remain focused on the task at hand. When working with young adults (grades 7-12), I try to do my very best to explain subjects as thorough as possible. I also like to take subjects one step further by using analogies to bring concepts into a form that is easier to understand and more relevant to their lifestyle.
My tutoring began in when I was employed with Nazareth Colleges' Partners for Learning program. This program worked with several schools in the Rochester, NY area to provide in school and after schoo ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Secondary Education and a BS in Business Administration. My education major is in spanish but I am also certified to teach Mathematics. The majority of my teaching experience is in Mathematics. I am currently an 8th grade Pre-Algebra teacher and also work teaching Algebra at Pima Community College. I have tutored students in spanish and math for over 10 years.
I enjoy teaching Mathematics and helping students realize their true potential. I am not a 'mathematician' , I am a teacher who understands math, so my teaching style is very student centered. My focus is to simplify math concepts to the level of each student for better understanding. Mathematics can be very intimidating to students so my goal as a teacher is to help students gain confidence in their skills and have a positive learning experience.

A Little Bit About Me...

According to me teaching is the process of imparting knowledge or skills. It’s about not only motivating students to learn, but teaching them how to learn, and doing so in a manner that is relevant, meaningful, and memorable. I believe that knowledge should not be imparted to students in a way that is stressful. Rather students should be helped to understand the world from their own phenomenological vantage points and day to day experience. I believe in students infinite potential to learn and grow as individuals. I have high expectations of my students. I don’t expect perfection, but I do insist on hard work and their best effort.

More About This Tutor...

I have always tried to apply a hands on approach when instructing others. It has almost always worked, and when it has not worked I tried to find the learning style of the individual and adapt to his or her needs. When correcting papers or reports I have always found that discussing what needs improvement with that person helps with them understanding the issue so that they will learn from the mistake.
Through the past ten years in law enforcement I have lead, instructed, and supervised many people. While serving in the military I was afforded the opportunity to attend several institutions such as the University of Chaminade, Wayland Baptist University, and the University of Phoenix. After my separation from the military I attended Central Arizona College and then transferred back to the University of Phoenix. Each individual is different. Therefore, you have to know the person first in order to apply a teaching style. Age, gender, and subject matter are some elements that influence how a person learns. Some people learn visually, some people learn by practicing, some people don't want to learn. My style varies according to the individual and what he or she likes or dislikes. As a tutor my role can be from formal authority, demonstrator, facilitator and delegator. Key elements in the classroom: 1) facilitate interaction and 2) delivery of the content to student.
